Explore the beaches

Enjoy the sun, sand, and sea at the beautiful beaches  - there are over 40km of beaches to explore.

From the tranquil waters along the Mar Menor to the long beaches on the Mediterranean, from secluded coves to bustling promenades lined with chiringuitos, sun beds and palapas, there's a beach for everyone.

Los Alcazares

The coastline stretches about 7km along the Mar Menor and is known for calm, shallow & one of the warmest waters in Europe . It has a continuous promenade dotted with chiringuitos and sun beds so is perfect for families. Some of our favourite beaches are:

  • El Espejo - great location near town centre
  • Carrion - wide, family friendly beach
  • La Concha - near the yacht club with great views
  • Los Narejos - lively area with bars, restaurants & water sports
  • La Hita - quiet area perfect for nature lovers

Santiago de la Ribera

Sitting on the Mar Menor, Santiago de la Ribera enjoys 4km of golden sandy beaches and very calm, shallow water making it ideal for relaxing & swimming. Our favourite spots are:

  • Playa de Barneuvo - wide, family friendly beach, great for walking & close to bars & restaurants.
  • Playa del Pescador - smaller beach which is often less crowded and close to local seafood restaurants.
  • Playa de Santiago de la Ribera - central & lively, this is a long stretch along main promenade with easy access to cafes & shops.
  • Playa de Colón - about 1km with fine sand. Lots of sun beds and watersports available.

Playa de la Llana, San Pedro del Pinatar

One of the most natural & unspoilt beaches in the Murcia Region. It sits inside the protected Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar Natural Park, right where the Mediterranean meets the Mar Menor.

It has a wild landscape with dunes, flats & lots of birdlife and about 3km of open coastline for you to walk and enjoy the scenery. There are no beach bars here but it's great for nature lovers and photographers.

Playa de Torre Derribada, San Pedro del Pinatar

This beach can be found at the end of a wooden walkway through the dunes. It's a beautiful, unspoilt setting with amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea and the wild natural dunes & flats.

Great for long walks, nature lovers & photographers as it feels untouched - it's very scenic. There's limited parking spaces nearby.

Lo Pagan

This area is famous for its calm beaches along the Mar Menor and natural therapeutic mud baths in the salt lagoon (La Characas). There's a continuous 6km promenade linking the town to Santiago de la Ribera with plenty of stops for drinks, tapas or swimming. Our favourite spots are:

  • Las Charcas - famous salt mud baths which are free to use. Bath in the lagoon and rub yourself with mud to enjoy the therapeutic benefits such as relief for joint and skin conditions.
  • Playa de Villananitos - popular sandy beach along the promenade. Great for families and packed with bars & chiringuitos.
  • Playa de la Puntica - historic main beach which is good for water sports such as paddle boarding, Jetski & kayaking and surrounded by restaurants & cafes.

Los Urrutias

A quiet, traditional beach located between Los Alcazares & Los Nietos. Known for a local feel and calm Mar Menor waters.

The beach is right next to the town with easy access to restaurants. It gets a lot busier in the Summer but is quieter during the rest of year making it perfect for long walks along the coast and you can swim off the wooden jetties.

Mar de Cristal

This is one of the cleanest and most pleasant beaches on the Mar Menor. Know for a relaxed atmosphere, its great for swimming or just enjoying the views of the Mar Menor islands and beautiful scenery especially at sunset.

There's  bars, restaurants and ice cream spots nearby to tempt you too.

Playa Honda

Playa Honda is a quiet residential beach on the Mar Menor, just before La Manga. Known for its wide sandy shore, calm water and relaxed atmosphere. It's a great alternative to busier tourist spots nearby.

Here, you can enjoy safe swimming conditions,  great sunsets and lovely walks in a quiet environment.

Playa Paraiso

This is a small, quiet beach with a gentle sloping shore, perfect if you love a peaceful atmosphere and safe swimming conditions.

Open views across the Mar Menor and beautiful sunsets make it a lovely choice for a low key day but maybe not for you if you want lively bars & parties!

La Manga

La Manga del Mar Menor is a unique 22km strip of land with beaches on both the Mediterranean Sea & Mar Menor so you can walk from one sea to the other in just minutes.

For classic beach experiences with waves visit the Mediterranean side:

  • Playa del Mediterranean (KM1-10) - long sandy beaches
  • Playa del Pedrucho (North) - beautiful, natural stretches that are less crowded.
  • Playa de Calblanque (near KM0) - wild protected national park and often said to be one of the best beaches in Murcia.

For calm, shallow & warmer waters, visit the Mar Menor side:

  • Playa Mistral (KM1-3) - great facilities and good for families
  • Playa del Ciervo  - very shallow and ideal for children
  • Playa Ensenada del Esparto (North end) - quiet, more natural feel

Playa del Lastre

This hidden cove near Portman is a mix of dark sand, gravel & rocks and surrounded by mountains and an old mining landscape. It's usually calmer than other beaches along the coast as it's in a sheltered spot.

You can rent sun beds in the summer but there are limited parking spaces and it  tends to get busy so get there early. One of the best things about the cove is Chiringuito El Lastre so you are guaranteed great food &.drinks right on the beach. They are known for amazing seafood and big portions!

A JOURNEY of THE BEAUTIFUL BEACHES ON OUR DOORSTEP .... What's your favourite?
